Electronic medical records replace the paper case sheet: today's visit, the patient's history, prescriptions, notes and reports for one doctor or one clinic. For a single-doctor practice, an EMR plus simple billing is often all you need. Anything more is money spent on software nobody opens.
EHR: the chart that travels
EHR (electronic health record) commonly describes a broader view of health information intended for use across care settings. Actual record exchange depends on the system, data formats, permissions and integrations in use. ABHA is an identifier in India’s digital health ecosystem; the “EHR” label alone does not establish that a product is connected to ABDM or meets a specific conformance requirement.
HMS: the whole hospital

Questions to ask about ABDM and ABHA
Ask the vendor which exact workflow is supported, what registrations or approvals your facility and providers need, which data moves, how consent and access are handled, and how the integration is tested.
